New Bruce song featured in vet film 'Thank You for Your Serv

Hello,

There’s a new Bruce Springsteen song in movie theaters this weekend.

"Freedom Cadence" plays over the closing credits of the heroes on the homefront drama, “Thank You for Your Service.” The film tells the stories of Iraq War veterans dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder. Miles Teller, Haley Bennett, Beulah Koale, Amy Schumer and Scott Haze are the stars of the ensemble cast.

The Boss was brought into the project by film producer Jon Kilik, according to Backstreets.com. The track is based on the soldiers’ marching cadence known as “Freedom.”

“Adam (Schumann, the real-life Iraq War veteran whom the story is based on) had a cadence that they sang in boot camp, and Jon (Kilik) recorded him singing it on his cell phone,” said director Jason Hall to Backstreets.com. “Jon (Kilik) is friends with Bruce and played it for him. Bruce was like, ‘Oh, that’s cool. How’d the movie turn out?’ ‘Movie turned out great.’ We played him the movie. Bruce loved it, watched it twice, and then said, ‘Send me that recording, come back in a month, and bring that kid.’ So Adam went up there with Jon and recorded the song with him.”

Springsteen sings, plays a harmonium and banjo and Ron Aniello is in charge of drum loops and electric keyboards on the track. Aniello, Kilik, Schumann and Springsteen are on the background vocals of “Freedom Cadence,” recorded at the Boss’ Stone Hill Studio in Colts Neck.
